Back Housing & Back Glass Options for iPhone SE (2020)

For the iPhone SE (2020), you have two main paths when the rear glass is broken: a complete OEM back housing with frame and all wireless parts pre-installed, or an aftermarket back glass-only repair. We clearly explain both so you can choose with confidence.

OEM vs Aftermarket Back Glass – What You Should Know

✔ OEM Apple Back Glass & Housing:
• OEM back glass and housing assemblies include the original flash diffuser film, wireless charging film, and internal shielding layers.
• After replacement, flashlight, wireless charging and alignment sensors continue working exactly like the original.
• OEM Apple glass is made of high-grade layered material. When dropped, it usually shatters into many small “spark-like” pieces — this behavior is typical of higher-quality safety glass and premium lamination.

✔ Aftermarket Back Glass:
• Aftermarket back glass assemblies often use different inner films and adhesives compared to Apple OEM.
• Wireless charging normally still works, but long-term durability and impact resistance can be lower than original.
• Aftermarket glass generally does not use the same multi-layer safety film. When dropped, it tends to break into larger, sharper pieces which can detach from the frame more easily.
• This is mainly due to the lower-grade inner film and weaker lamination quality used in most aftermarket panels.

Laser Back Glass Replacement vs Safe Full Disassembly

Two common methods are used for iPhone SE (2020) back glass-only repair:

1. OEM-Style Full Housing Assembly (Frame + Flex Cables)
• The original-style assembly comes with the aluminum frame, wireless charging coil, flash diffuser, power & volume button flexes, Wi-Fi / Bluetooth / antenna flexes and shielding film all pre-installed.
• Your logic board, camera, battery and other internals are moved into this new shell. This method closely follows Apple’s original design and protects the internal parts.

2. Aftermarket Back Glass Only – Two Different Approaches
A) Laser-Machine Back Glass Replacement (Very Common, Not Recommended)
• Many repair kiosks and shops use a laser machine to burn the paint and color layer under the back glass while the phone is still fully assembled.
• The glass is broken off, then the remaining glue and color film are scraped with blades and very high heat — but the logic board, battery, wireless coil, flash, antennas and flex cables remain inside the phone.

Risks with the laser method when the phone is not fully disassembled:
• The battery can be exposed to high temperature during and after the laser process, causing the battery to swell a few weeks later even if there was no battery problem before.
• Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, antenna and flash flex cables sit directly under the glass. While scraping the hard glue/paint layer, these delicate parts can be cut or weakened, leading to signal issues or random restarts.
• New glass is glued on top and clamped for a few hours. Excess glue can flow inside the phone and cause internal parts (logic board, battery, wireless coil, flash, antenna and charge flex cables) to stick together, increasing heat and long-term failure risk.
• Because the original rear layer is not cleaned down to a perfectly flat, “zero” surface, small gaps remain under the new glass. As a result, a future drop can crack the aftermarket glass much faster than the original.

B) Our Method – No Laser, Full Disassembly, Controlled Heat
• At One Fix Tech, we do not use a laser machine for iPhone SE (2020) back glass repairs.
• We completely disassemble the device first: logic board, battery, wireless charging coil, flash module, all antennas, charge flex and other components are safely removed from the housing.
• Only after the inside is fully empty, we use controlled high temperature to soften the rear glass and the color/adhesive layers, then carefully clean the surface down to a flat base.
• A high-quality replacement glass is installed, clamped and cured, and then we reassemble and test every single function (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, flash, wireless charging, etc.).

Our honest recommendation:
• If your SE (2020) back glass is cracked but large pieces are not missing and you are not planning to trade in the phone soon, you may choose to leave it as-is instead of installing an aftermarket back glass.
• If you do decide on an aftermarket back glass, remember that it is generally more fragile than the original. For the safest and most durable result, an OEM full back housing with frame is still the gold standard.
